Repeated cycles of abuse and reconciliation can result in the following beliefs:
- The abused thinks that the violence was his or her fault
- The abused has an inablility to place the responsibility for the violence elsewhere.
- The abused fears for their life and/or the lives of their children (if present).
- The abused has an irrational belief that the abuser is omnipresent and omniscient.
Not long ago, I would have told you that I couldn't understand how people could live like that. I mean how can the violence be his or her fault and not the abusers?? Why do they blame themselves and not the guilty one? If they're afraid for their kids lives, why don't they get them out of there? How can the abuser be all-seeing, all-knowing??? How can they be brainwashed like that?
Oh. Right. For many of us, we're taught to believe this from day one.
ARR you going to let the abuse continue?
ARR you going to let the abuse continue?
